Police thrashes Saraswati to reach Running Shield semis

CHITWAN, Oct 19: Suman Lama scored a hat-trick as departmental team Nepal Police Club thrashed Saraswati Youth Club 5-0 to advance into the semifinals of the Tuborg Jaycees Running Shield in Narayangadh on Friday.

CHITWAN, Oct 19: Suman Lama scored a hat-trick as departmental team Nepal Police Club thrashed Saraswati Youth Club 5-0 to advance into the semifinals of the Tuborg Jaycees Running Shield in Narayangadh on Friday. 


Lama opened the scoring in the first minute of the game. Nir Kumar Rai doubled the scoreline in the 24th minute. 


Police could not add more to its tally in the first half, and did the other work in the second scoring three more goals.

Hem Tamang made the score 3-0 in the 53rd minute and Lama scored in the space of six minutes to complete a hat-trick. He scored his second and third in the 33rd and the 39th minutes.


Lama was named the man of the match and was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 10,000. 


This was the first game for Police after it got a bye, and with a win, it has directly reached the last four. 


Other departmental teams Armed Police Force (APF) Club and Jhapa XI will face each other on Saturday. 


The winner of the tournament will be rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 606,666 while the runner-up will bag a purse of Rs 303,333. 


The tournament will run till October 26.
