Nine journalists arrested from Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU, Sept 16:  Police have arrested nine journalists from Singha Durbar on Monday afternoon.

KATHMANDU, Sept 16:  Police have arrested nine journalists from Singha Durbar on Monday afternoon.


The journalists were arrested when they were demanding the reinstatement of journalists affiliated with Radio Nepal.

Those arrested include Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Ram Prasad Dahal, FNJ Central Committee Members Yam Birahi, Janmadev Jaisi, Min Bom, FNJ Doti chapter president Yogendra Balayar, Ajayababu Siwakoti, the general secretary of Press Union and journalists Dilip Poudel, Prakash Bam and Chakra Kunwar. 


A few months ago, two journalists Prakash Bam and Chakra Kunwar affiliated with Radio Nepal Regional Broadcasting Centre, Dipayal were sacked by the management after they demanded the implementation of minimum wages for journalists in their office. 


Police have taken them into custody at Nepal Police Club, Exhibition Road. 


According to journalist Dilip Poudel, they were arrested during their protest on the Radio Nepal premises, Singhadurbar on Monday afternoon.
