CIAA appeals to SC over Special Court's acquittals in multiple cases

KATHMANDU, Nov 23: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed appeals in the Supreme Court, expressing dissatisfaction with the Special Court's decisions in numerous cases involving several defendants.

KATHMANDU, Nov 23: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed appeals in the Supreme Court, expressing dissatisfaction with the Special Court's decisions in numerous cases involving several defendants.


The CIAA had lodged cases against Bhushan Jha, Bhim Bahadur Rokaya, Dal Bahadur Budha and Sushma Karki Bhandari. The Special Court acquitted them on March 1, 2024. Dissatisfied with this verdict, the CIAA filed an appeal in the Supreme Court on Friday, as confirmed by CIAA Spokesperson Narhari Ghimire.


Similarly, the CIAA had filed cases against Ghanshyam Dube, Thakur Prasad Guraule, Shakti Prasad Sapkota, and Pushpa Sapkota. The Special Court acquitted them as well. The Court also acquitted Mankakumari Awasthi, Narbahadur Kunwar, and Jayaraj Joshi in a corruption case involving fraudulent teacher appointment transfer letters. The CIAA has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court, seeking reconsideration of these acquittals.

In another case involving public property damage, the Special Court acquitted Chandrasingh Lama, Sangita Chaulagai, and Madhav Prasad Chaulagai. The CIAA, dissatisfied with their acquittal on June 5, has also filed an appeal.


The CIAA filed a case against Samrat Bahadur Shah, and the Special Court acquitted him on November 22. The CIAA has appealed this decision in the Supreme Court, along with a case involving corruption by Mahesh Singh Kathayat and others.


In a case involving Binod Kumar Yadav, who is accused of preparing false reports for corruption, the Special Court acquitted him on February 18, 2024. The CIAA has appealed this verdict as well.


In cases involving defendants Parshuram Adhikari, Sitaram Pokhrel, Taraprasad Joshi, Prasarama Bhusal, Bhaktaratna Tuladhar, Shashi Tuladhar, Ranu Tuladhar, and Divya Tuladhar, the Special Court acquitted them on January 21, 2024. The CIAA has filed an appeal against this verdict.


Likewise, the Special Court acquitted Narayan Prasad Paudel and others on November 22, and the CIAA has filed an appeal against this decision as well. Similarly, in a corruption case involving the misappropriation of government funds, the Special Court acquitted Keshab Prasad Acharya, Lokendra Karki, Bishal Sundas, Madhav Prasad, and Pushparaj Sigdel on January 3, 2024. The CIAA has filed an appeal in this case as well, expressing dissatisfaction with the acquittal.
