JC recommends 35 judges for district courts and six judges for high courts

KATHMANDU, Aug 11: The Judicial Council (JC) has recommended the appointment of 35 judges for district courts and six judges for high courts. The posts of four justices at the Supreme Court and 10 judges at the high courts are still vacant.

KATHMANDU, Aug 11: The Judicial Council (JC) has recommended the appointment of 35 judges for district courts and six  judges for high courts. The posts of four justices at the Supreme Court and 10 judges at the high courts are still vacant.


A meeting of the JC held on Friday under the chairmanship of Chief Justice and JC Chairman Bishwoambhar Prasad Shrestha recommended the appointments to the vacant positions of judges. Judges are appointed from the judicial service and the public prosecutors’ offices.

The JC has recommended the appointment of Judge Ratna Bahadur Bagchand as the Chief Judge of Pokhara High Court. Narayan Rimal, Yam Bahadur Baniya, Rudraprasad Subedi, Dharmaraj Paudel, Subarnaman Banepali have been recommended for appointment as district judges on behalf of the public prosecutors’ offices.


Similarly, from the Judicial Service, Tanka Bahadur Mahat, Tirtha Raj Bhatta, Sarita Rayamajhi, Pratima Kumari Bhattarai, Shiva Prasad Parajuli, Lal Singh Thapa, Shambhu Prasad Regmi, Deependra Nath Yogi, Durga Prasad Basyal, Deepak Dhital, Meghnath Chapagai, Min Bahadur Kunwar, Indra Bahadur Khadka, Nabaraj Karki, Raju Dhungana, Hari Singh Dhami, Arun Kumar Jha, Dolnath Nyaupane, Durga Prasad Bhattarai, Ishwar Acharya, Mohan Bahadur Adhikari, Naarad Prasad Bhattarai, Gopal Prasad Thapa, Chandra Dev Bharti, Thakur Prasad Poudel, Rit Bahadur Pulami Magar, Jayanti Awasti Bhatta, Dikshya Pradhananga, Sharada Devi Poudel, and Devi Chaudhary have been recommended for appointment as district judges. The recommended individuals will be assigned responsibilities in various districts along with their work divisions.


According to the JC, the judges were selected on the basis of ranking, merit and inclusiveness. The JC has also recommended the transfer of 21 district judges and one high court judge.


The meeting decided to transfer Rajan Prasad Bhattarai, a judge at Pokhara High Court and chairman of the Revenue Tribunal, Pokhara, as a judge in the Birgunj bench. The meeting also decided to appoint Judge Sudarshan Raj Pandey to the revenue tribunal in Pokhara.
