Nepal Flood Alert: People living on river banks cautioned to take safety measures

KATHMANDU, Aug 13:  With the moon rains continuing unabated, level of water in the various rivers has crossed the danger level.

According to a notice issued by Nepal Flood Alert, under the Flood Forecasting Section, Hydrology Division, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, water level in the Bagmati river in Raigaun has crossed the danger level and warned the locals especially those living near the river banks  in Rautahat and Sarlahi to take precaution until this evening today.

Similarly, the water level in the Karnali River crossed the danger level at 3:40 pm and it is gradually increasing, hence, the locals living near the banks in Bardiya and Kailali have been alerted to take safety measures until tomorrow morning.

Likewise, locals in Dhanusha and Siraha have been advised to take safety measures level until this evening as the water level in Kamala River has crossed the danger level.

The government has also updated the locals about the condition of rivers through SMS.

According to Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), Kathmandu, a total of 64 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours in Kathmandu. Heavy rains have occurred in east Nepal, with 87 millimeters of rainfall in Okhaldhunga and 53 mm in Dhankuta.

According to MFD, 49 mm rainfall was recorded in Dang and Nepalgunj while Dhangadhi, Dadeldhura and Taplejung witnessed 34 mm, 23 mm and 26 mm rainfall respectively.

The rain will continue until the next three days and the weather will gradually clear up from Wednesday, according to MFD.
