KATHMANDU, July 21: People living along the banks of Bhotekoshi River in Sindhupalchowk district have been asked to stay alert as the potential outburst of Kerung Tso lake in Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of China could cause a huge flash flood in the river.
Chief District Officer (CDO) of Sindhupalchowk Umesh Kumar Dhakal has asked people living in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Barhabise Rural Municipality and other small markets along the bank of Bhotekoshi River after his Chinese counterparts informed him that the incessant rainfall in the region is likely cause sudden outburst of the lake.

Issuing a notice on Monday, CDO Dhakal also asked all concerned individuals and organizations to stay in safe places and make necessary preparations to deal with the imminent threats.
Chinese authorities are reportedly relocating their citizens to upper parts in view of the potential threats of the lake outburst. It is said that the outburst of the lake also known as Dudhpokhari could cause huge damage in the Barhabise area.
It takes a six-hour walk from Tatopati in Nepal-China border to reach the lake. Chinese authorities had conveyed a similar message of alert to Nepali side shortly after the major earthquake that hit Nepal in April, 2015.
