KATHMANDU, May 20: Nepali Congress (NC) has announced the launch of a labor donation campaign to help build temporary shelters for the earthquake victims. The campaign has been named "Himal, Pahad, Tarai yogdan, Bipattiko samana garna hami garchhau shramdan" (Himal, Pahad Tarai contribution; we donate labor to face this crisis).

A meeting of the central office bearers of NC held on Wednesday decided to depute teams comprising 25 members each to different places affected by the earthquake. Each team will consist of masons, carpenters, those with expertise to make thatched roofs along with others who can do other menial work.

According to a press statement issued by NC, the team will set a date and contact the affected people before visiting the earthquake affected villages so that the team won't have difficulties carrying out its works. Each team will work for at least seven days to help build temporary shelters which can withstand the upcoming rainy season.NC has categorically stated that any such team will have to carry food and other logistic themselves. Likewise, the behavior of such team should be sympathetic toward the earthquake-affected people.

According to the press statement, one central working committee member of the party will be deputed to identify the place for building homes while a CWC member will be in the district where the party's labor campaign is held. The NC has also decided to write to various sister organizations affiliated to the party, including engineers association and medical association, to extend their technical support to such teams. Among other things, the NC has also decided to mobilize its cadres for relief distribution.
