KATHMANDU, July 18: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has issued a whip to its lawmakers to attend today’s House of Representatives (HoR) meeting and vote in favor of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

A parliamentary party meeting held earlier this afternoon took a decision to this effect, according to NC’s Whip Phuspa Bhusal. “The party has also welcomed the verdict of the apex court to reinstate the dissolved parliament and appoint the party’s President Deuba as the Prime Minister,” Bhusal added.

The newly appointed PM Dueba is scheduled to take a vote of confidence later this evening.

In the 275-member House, where 271 votes will be counted, Deuba must garner at least 136 votes to win parliament’s confidence and remain intact as the executive head of the country for the remaining term of the House. If he fails to win the confidence, the House will get dissolved as per Article 76 (7) and a mid-term poll will be held within six months.
