MORANG, March 29: Industrialists of the Morang-Sunsari industrial corridor have demanded the authorities concerned provide continuous supply of electricity, after facing unannounced load shedding for the past week. Morang Merchants Association, Industry Association Morang and Confederation of Nepali Industries raised this issue at a press conference held in Biratnagar today.

The industrial corridors in Province 1 have been facing unannounced load shedding for the past week. The region’s sector has been facing 12 hours of power cuts since last Tuesday. Industrialists say that the government and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) promise one thing in speeches and do the opposite.

They accused the government and the authorities of lying to the people to invest in big industries a few days ago claiming to provide enough electricity as needed despite forcing unannounced load shedding in the region’s industrial corridor.

On the occasion, Industry Association of Morang’s Chairman Suyash Pyakurel urged the government to make the load shedding schedule public and to cut power supply only during peak hours.

"There is no load-shedding in the Balaju Industrial estate of Kathmandu but the Sunsari-Morang Industrial Corridor has been experiencing load-shedding for 12 to 14 hours daily,” he said.
