KATHMANDU, April 25: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has inquired with Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba about recent rumors surrounding a potential change in government.

According to Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, PM Oli spoke to Deuba over the phone on Thursday evening while the latter was in Bangkok, Thailand.

Speaking to journalists at Tribhuvan International Airport upon her return from Bangkok on Friday, Minister Deuba confirmed the phone conversation between the two leaders.

"You mentioned it as a rumor yourself. In Nepal, once something spreads, it turns into a form of entertainment. Government changes don’t happen from abroad; they’re managed from within the country," Minister Deuba said in response to reporters’ questions.

She further said that Prime Minister Oli had questioned Deuba over the phone about the matter. “The Prime Minister asked, ‘What is this about?’ and Deuba responded that there was nothing of the sort happening,” she added.

Commenting on Prime Minister Oli’s recent remarks urging party cadres to focus on upcoming elections rather than worry about the government, Minister Deuba said his statement was appropriate.

“He said the right thing in favor of political stability. Focusing on elections instead of worrying about government change is better for stability,” she said.
