BHAKTAPUR, July 3: A special municipal assembly of Madhyapurthimi municipality called for today turned out to become controversial due to differences among the people's representatives at the municipality. Mayor Madan Sundar Shrestha postponed the special municipal assembly.
Issuing a communiqué, Administrative Officer at the municipality, Mahesh Baral said that the special municipal assembly called for today has been postponed after people's representatives failed to forge a consensus. Municipal assembly chair and mayor Shrestha announced the postponement of the assembly until next notice.
KMC Municipal Council meeting postponed
Although mayor Shrestha postponed the assembly on the basis of two-thirds majority, deputy-mayor Anjana Devi Madhikarmi ran the special municipal assembly. Chairperson of Madhyapurthimi municipality-2 and spokesperson Ram Thapamagar presented different proposals in the assembly including scraping the integrated tax passed by municipal assembly last year, reducing tax imposed at different sectors and carrying out investigation of different projects run with the unilateral decision of the mayor.
Deputy Mayor Madhikarmi said that the municipal assembly passed the proposals with majority. She said she was not aware about the postponement of the municipal assembly and had actually run the meeting due to the absence of mayor Shrestha.
