KATHMANDU, June 28: Tensions have risen between Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra (Balen) Shah and the ward chairpersons, disrupting municipal assembly meetings.
Mayor Balen has accused representatives from the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML of obstructing the assembly. In a social media post on Friday, he claimed that NC and UML members walked out of the meeting after he proposed dedicating programs to independent martyrs instead of party leaders BP Koirala and Madan Bhandari.

He noted that while NC and UML proposed expensive programs in the names of their leaders, he suggested honoring martyrs like Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand, and Gangalal Shrestha. This disagreement led to the halting of the assembly meeting.
