KATHMANDU, June 15: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has warned the ward chairpersons representing the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML not to bring their party affiliations to the Municipal Assembly.
Mayor Balen expressed his anger on social media after today's Municipal Assembly was postponed due to a boycott by ward chairpersons representing the NC and the UML.

He stated that the right to speak of 160 people's representatives had been violated because of three leaders. "In the Municipal Assembly, no one holds the position of leader or deputy leader of any party. All 160 members have equal participation and ownership in every decision," Shah said.
"Kathmandu Metropolitan City does not engage in political bargaining behind closed doors and then merely formalize those decisions publicly," he further wrote.
Emphasizing transparency, Mayor Shah said that no policies or plans of KMC will be discussed behind closed doors. He added that since every citizen has an interest, the Municipal Assembly will be broadcast live.
The Municipal Assembly meeting on Sunday had an agenda to discuss making New Road a 'No Vehicle Zone'. Ward chairpersons from the NC and the UML, who disagreed with this agenda, boycotted the meeting.
