KATHMANDU, Aug 26: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has urged party leaders and activists not to mislead the people by referring to the Supreme Court's decision as a municipal decision.

On Monday, he took to Facebook to clarify that the court's order designates a construction-prohibited area extending 20 meters around Tukucha and 40 meters around Bagmati and Bishnumati regions. Mayor Balen emphasized that this is not a decision of the metropolis and urged against spreading confusion.
“After the Supreme Court's order, the KMC informed the public about the construction-prohibited area of 40 meters for Bagmati and Bishnumati and 20 meters on each side of Tukucha. No structures can be built on that land,” Mayor Shah wrote on Facebook, “According to the court’s order, while the people have not been prevented from using their land, the Nepal government can acquire the land only by paying compensation. Party leaders and activists should not mislead the public by misinterpreting the court’s order as a decision of the metropolitan city.”
