“There is an immediate need to make the voices of women heard in the public domain,” says Devendra Uprety, one of the conveners of the conference.
All interested candidates are required to submit abstracts of their research works in social science or humanities. The candidates, however, must have already completed their research and have a near final draft of write-ups based on that research.
Candidates, who are no more than 35 years of age as of March 1, 2011, are eligible to take part in the conference. However, those with some prior experiences of presenting academic papers in conferences are an exception. Although the priority will be given to Nepali females, Non-Nepali women researchers are also eligible to apply, according to the organizers.
In case of a group research, the rules require that the lead researcher and paper presenter should be a woman.
The title of the proposed paper and its main arguments/findings must be clearly stated in the abstract. The candidates are also required to submit a single page CV highlighting contact details and college/university-level education and prior research experiences and publications if any.
Altogether, 15 to 18 research papers will be presented on the occasion under the following four thematic areas: i) Politics, identity and society, (ii) gender and empowerment, (iii) exclusion, inclusion, education and development, and (iv) public health and environment.
Interested candidates are required to register their names at the reception desk of Martin Chautari Jeetjung Marg, Thapathali, Kathmandu by March 1, 2011. Only 30 seats are available.
Registration fee is Rs 500 (inclusive of tea and lunch for two days). The fee should be paid at the time of registration.
