KATHMANDU, Nov 19: The scheduled session of parliament has been delayed on Friday afternoon after UCPN (Maoist) suggested against the suspension of provisions by the President.

“We have put forward a suggestion to go with the regular process of budget presentation rather than going through suspension of provisions by the President,” Maoist spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma said.

The top leaders of the main three political parties are discussing the way forward at the CA Building, BICC, Baneshwor.[break]

On Thursday, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav issued an order to the Parliament Secretariat to suspend provisions of the Interim Constitution in connection with statute amendment in accordance to recommendations made by the cabinet.

Various parties have criticized the government move to recommend to the head of state to remove difficulties in amending the statute. Yadav had ordered to suspend a restrictive provision in the Article 85 (1) and the sub-clause 85 (2).

Maoist had agreed for the move. However, after other political parties criticized the move saying it brought forward the constitutional head of the state into the active politics.

The meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has also been delayed.

The government initiated the move to present the full-fledged budget, scheduled for Friday.

The cabinet meeting on Friday morning was postponed after members of the cabinet suggested that the cabinet could not nod to the budget before the amendment of the constitution.
