KATHMANDU, March 1: CPN (Unified Socialist) has claimed that the CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC) have abandoned their previous stance and proposed ‘Koshi’ as the name of Province 1.
In a meeting of the Provincial Assembly of Province 1 on Wednesday, while proposing the name of the province as Kirat-Limbuwan-Sagarmatha, the leader of the Unified Socialist Rajendra Kumar Rai accused the UML and the NC of forgetting their previous commitment.
Province 1 name to be finalized soon: CM Rai
He said that the UML had raised the issue of provinces with identity in its election promises during both elections of the Constituent Assembly. Claiming that in the first Constituent Assembly, the UML had proposed that up to 13 provinces could be formed by naming them on the basis of identity and geography, Rai said that it is not appropriate for them to propose a name by ignoring the issue of identity now.
He alleged that the Nepali Congress also accepted identity as a basis of naming the province in the past, but now it has reneged on its promise. "NC said that we should have a name that will erase the conflict and find the identity," he said.
He said that the proposal made by them will address the same issues as Congress in the past. The CPN Unified Socialist assembly meeting.
