KATHMANDU, Oct 7: The management of the Dharmashala in the Pashupati area, which has long been accused of being monopolized and operated arbitrarily by the Marwadi Sewa Samiti Nepal under a low-cost lease, will now be handled by the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT).

A meeting of the PADT’s Executive Council, chaired by Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Pandey, on Sunday, decided to issue directives to coordinate with other relevant bodies as necessary for management.

In the meeting, which was attended by Council member and Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Shah, it was decided that the authority to manage the Pashupati Dharmashala would be vested in the PADT. The decision also allows for coordination with other relevant bodies as needed, giving the PADT a clear path to manage the facility.

The council made this decision after the Kathmandu District Court, in its ruling on October 2, dismissed the claim of the Marwadi Sewa Samiti. The Samiti had filed a case against the PADT, requesting the cancellation of its previous contract.
