FM Rana tells Nepali envoys to take stock of the situation of Nepalis in Lebanon, Israel

KATHMANDU, Oct 6: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba has instructed Nepal's embassies to be 'updated' with information about the situation of Nepalis in Israel and Lebanon.  


In a virtual meeting with the Nepali ambassadors in the Gulf countries, Minister Rana on Sunday urged the ambassadors and officials to take stock of the latest situation unfolding amid rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah . She further directed the Nepali envoys to be in touch with each Nepali there and do the needful coordination if required.


"If there is a situation where Nepali citizens have to be rescued from there and brought back to the country, then do the necessary homework for that too," Minister Rana said.

Minister Rana issued a notification to the embassies of the respective countries and instructed them to appoint contact persons and to establish necessary help desks to provide necessary assistance and coordination to the Nepalis who are in trouble.


Nepali ambassador to Egypt Sushil Lamsal, while informing about the latest situation in Lebanon, said that the Nepalis are not facing any adverse situation in Lebanon at present. He said that it is estimated that there are about 1,200 Nepalis there and most of them are engaged in domestic work. Only three people were in contact with the embassy following the embassy's notice and they were reported safe there. 


Ambassador Lamsal informed that currently no Nepalis have informed that they were in trouble, but their relatives in Nepal are worried.  


Meanwhile, Charge d'affaires to Israel Kumar Shrestha said that the situation in Israel is normal and about 4,500 Nepalis living there were safe. 


On the occasion, Tapas Adhikari, the Nepalese ambassador to Pakistan, updated Foreign Minister Rana about the latest situation in Iran as well.
