A report presented by the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) at Ghorahi, district headquarters of Dang, on Sunday showed Malaysia as the country that has attracted the highest number of Nepali migrant workers.As per the report, 8,50,269 migrant workers, including 17,322 women, from Nepal have found employment in Malaysia from fiscal year 2051/52 BS till date. The figures talk only about those who entered into Malaysian employment through legal process, according to the DoFE.
Yogendra Basnet, counselor at the foreign employment counseling center in Dang, said that favorable climate and better pay are the factors that have endeared Malaysia to Nepalese seeking employment abroad.
"Migrant workers with some knowledge about climate and pay prefer Malaysia," said he.
The DoFE's report shows that Qatar is the second favorite destination for Nepalese migrant workers. A total of 7,18,269 migrant workers have reached Qatar for foreign employment through legal process.
Saudi Arabia, where half a million Nepalese reached in the last two decades, is the third most popular destination.
Likewise, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, South Korea, Lebanon, Israel and Afghanistan rank from fourth to tenth destination countries chosen by Nepalese migrant workers.
Recently, the government prepared a list of ten districts that have seen highest number of its youth leaving the country in search of foreign employment.
Dhanusha, Jhapa and Morang figure at the top of the list.
Similarly, Mahottari, Siraha, Nawalparasi, Saptari, Sunsari, Rupandehi and Sarlahi are among the ten districts to have a large number of youth leave for foreign shores in search of jobs.
