KATHMANDU, Aug 15: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) declined marginally by 6.26 points, or 0.24 percent, last week amid a slump in trading activity in the country’s secondary market.
The secondary market opened at 2,650.09 points and closed at 2,643.83 points. During the week, the market rose to a high of 2,656.54 points and fell to a low of 2,629.22 points, registering a volatility of 27.32 points.

The market index declined on two trading days—Monday and Friday—by 9.02 points and 7.37 points, respectively. Of the three gaining sessions, the index posted its biggest gain of 8.81 points on Thursday.
Sector-wise, four groups gained, with the hotels and tourism index rising by 49.52 points, or 0.68 percent. Of the remaining nine sectors, the trading sector recorded the largest decline, falling 148.04 points, or 4.37 percent.
Among individual companies, Ghalemdi Hydro recorded the biggest gain, with its share price rising 9.21 percent to Rs 249 per unit. Meanwhile, Mahila Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha recorded the largest decline, with its share price falling 21.05 percent.
Average daily turnover fell to Rs 3.864 billion from Rs 4.290 billion, a decline of 9.94 percent. Market capitalization also decreased to Rs 4.547 trillion from Rs 4.554 trillion, resulting in a Rs 7 billion decline in investors’ total market value. In the previous week, investors had suffered a loss of Rs 60.9 billion.
