Investors lose Rs 43.2 billion as NEPSE falls 0.95 percent in a week

KATHMANDU, Aug 22: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) last week decreased 25.11points (0.95 percent) amid slump in transactions in the country’s secondary market.



The secondary market opened for trading at 2,643.83 points and closed at 2,618.72 points. During the period, the market rose as high as 2,648.57 points and fell as low as 2,608.38 points, marking the volatility of 40.19 points.

Except on Thursday when the market gained 7.17 points, the index plunged in the remaining four trading days. The largest decline was seen on Tuesday with the index falling by 19.34 points.


Sector-wise, two groups—trading, and manufacturing and processing—inclined by 13.29 points and 11.65 points, respectively. Of the 11 losers, life insurance shed the largest of 210.41 points, as the finance index plunged by the highest of 2.37 percent.


Among the individual companies, share price of Khani Khola Hydropower Company lost the highest of 23.39 percent. Sarbottam Paints Industries Limited with a jump of 101.06 percent stood as the topmost gainer.   


The average daily turnover increased to Rs 4.493 billion from Rs 3.864 billion, marking a gain of 16.30 percent. Market capitalization, however, also fell to Rs 4.504 trillion from Rs 4.547 trillion, inflicting the investors with a loss of Rs 43.2 billion in their book value. In the previous week, the investors had a loss of Rs 7 billion.
