KATHMANDU, Dec 13: Nepal Rugby Association (NRA) is organizing Inter-club Women's and Men's Rugby Sevens Series on Tuesday at the Dasharath Stadium, Tripureshwar.



Organizing a press conference in the capital on Monday, NRA General Secretary Chetan Raj Giri informed that the tournament will serve as a qualifier for Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy 2017 to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from February 19 to 21. 



The day-long tournament will see participation of eight men's team and four women's team.



The men's event will be played on knockout format while the women's event will be played in league format. It will be the first occasion that NRA will be holding inter-club sevens series.



Aakash Bhairab Rugby Club (Dhulikhel), Budhanilakantha Rugby Club, Tribhuvan Army Club A and B, Everest Rugby Club (New Baneshwar), Nijhgadh Rugby Club (Bara), Gorkhali Rugby Club (Koteshwar) and Chabahil Rugby Club will participate in men's section.



Similarly, the women's section will feature Gorkhali Rugby Club, Kathmandu Women's Rugby Club, Kathmandu District Rugby Club, Budhanilakantha Rugby Club and Aakash Bhairab Rugby Club.  



The sevens series is the shortest format of rugby and the starting list will feature seven players in either sides. Each match will be played for 15 minutes. 



“We will pick 12 male and female players each from the tournament. We still have two months before the tournament in Bangkok begins. We will run regular training camp for two months to prepare the team for Asia Rugby Sevens,” said Tanka Lal Ghising, the president of NRA recalling that the women's national team had defeated Indonesia in an international tournament played a couple of months earlier in Chennai.
