KATHMANDU, Sept 29: CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has said the party will no longer pursue unity with any other political party, declaring the door to such mergers fully closed.
Addressing secretariat members from Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Valley Special and Liaison Coordination provinces virtually, Oli said discussing party unity with other parties, including the CPN-Maoist Centre, was a waste of time and an unnecessary complication. He directed party members to end such discussions and said the UML would move forward by relying on its own organization and strength.
“Discussing party unity with any other party is simply a waste of time,” Oli said. “Electoral alliances or issue-based cooperation with other forces may be possible, but it is not appropriate to discuss party unity in a way that creates unnecessary complications.”
Oli said the party would strengthen internal discipline to make the UML self-reliant and declared the third Central Committee plenary meeting a “cut-off date.”

“The Central Committee meeting has ended the doubts within the party. There will be no disorder or indiscipline now,” he said. “In the past, criminal activities were carried out in the name of reorganization, even to the extent of seeking the removal of the chair. All of that has been forgiven, but there will be no forgiveness now. Anyone who goes against party policy or makes statements that please the opposition will face action.”
Oli instructed party leaders to abandon the “tourist” tendency of leaving their assigned areas and staying in Kathmandu or other places offering greater comfort.
“Leaders and cadres will now be evaluated not on the basis of seniority but on the basis of their work and performance,” he said. “Change yourselves and learn courtesy and humility. The UML alone has a clear policy for developing the country. Go among the people with confidence and build their trust.”
Oli claimed that a planned conspiracy was underway to push the country’s economic, political and cultural conditions backward. He expressed concern over the incidents of September 8 and 9 last year, including arson targeting national property, Singha Durbar and private residences.
He said the country had fallen into crisis due to unconstitutional steps and that the UML would provide firm leadership to return the country to democratic procedures and the constitutional track.
Oli acknowledged that the losses suffered by the party in the February elections resulted from external attacks, planned destruction and internal weaknesses. He said the party would launch a “digital campaign” to counter what he described as misinformation spread by opponents.
He directed the party to complete digital record-keeping, organizational strengthening and new membership distribution within this month. General Secretary Shankar Pokharel facilitated the virtual program conducted from the party’s central office.
Vice Chairs Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, Bishnu Paudel and Raghuji Pant, and Secretaries Padma Aryal, Sherdhan Rai, Bhanubhakta Dhakal and Dr Rajan Bhattarai, among other senior leaders, attended the meeting.
