MYAGDI, Sept 30: A recommendation has been made to declare Myagdi district a disaster-hit district following floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall from September 24 to 27, which caused human and physical losses in the district.
A meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee held on Tuesday decided to recommend to the Home Ministry that Myagdi be declared a disaster-hit district and that reconstruction and rehabilitation activities be given priority, Chief District Officer Ganesh Gaire said.
Seven people lost their lives and two went missing, while the disaster caused extensive damage to physical infrastructure in the district, Gaire said.
Meanwhile, teams comprising people's representatives from local levels, government employees and security personnel have been mobilized since Tuesday to collect details of damage to physical infrastructure, private houses, agriculture and livestock caused by the floods and landslides.

Assistant Chief District Officer Kul Prasad Acharya said that, along with rescue and relief efforts, damage assessments have begun in all six local levels.
According to the details collected so far, 23 houses were completely damaged in Beni Municipality, three in Raghuganga, 18 in Mangala, one in Malika, two in Annapurna and one in Dhaulagiri.
Similarly, 23 houses are at risk in Beni, 47 in Raghuganga, four in Mangala, three in Malika and 23 in Dhaulagiri.
As of Tuesday, 21 cowsheds had been damaged in Beni, 26 in Raghuganga, eight in Mangala and one in Annapurna. Twenty cattle died in the disaster across the district.
A total of 109 people were rescued by helicopter and taken to temporary shelters. Following the disaster, 70 Nepal Army personnel, 251 Nepal Police personnel and 60 Armed Police Force personnel were mobilized in Myagdi.
All roads linking Beni with other districts and rural areas have been blocked by landslides and floods. Power and communication services have also been disrupted in all areas except the district headquarters.
Beni, the district headquarters, is also facing a drinking water shortage.
