KATHMANDU, Dec 8: President of Asia Rugby, Qais Al Dhalai, arrived in Nepal on Thursday. Dhalai has come to Nepal for the U-18 Asian Rugby Sevens Championship to be held at the Dasharath Stadium, Tripureshwar on December 10 and 11.
The two-day championship is going to be organized by the Asia Rugby and under the management of Nepal Rugby Association. This is the first time in history of Nepal that an international rugby championship is going to be held in the country. Eight Asian countries will participate in the competition. Nepal, India, China, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and the UAE are the participating teams. A total of eight teams in the men’s category and five in the women’s category will participate in the championship.
2,500 participate in rugby festival
Member-Secretary of the National Sports Council Tank Lal Ghising, who is also an EXCO member of Asia Rugby, Deepak Devkota, acting president of Nepal Rugby Association, Chetanraj Giri, general secretary, Govinda Ghimire, secretary and Spokesperson of NRA and others welcomed President Dhalai at the VIP lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport on Thursday.
President Dhalai has thanked Nepal for organizing the U-18 championship and expressed confidence that the event would be successful. He stated that Nepal is one of the active members of Asia Rugby. With the beauty of Nepal and being the country of Buddha and Mt Everest, he believes that Nepal will be a good destination for events like this. He also expressed his commitment that Nepal will get the opportunity to conduct international competitions in the coming days.
