KATHMANDU, July 21: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Sumana Shrestha has said that a media trial is underway for the character assassination of Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar.

Shrestha said so while defending the controversial letter by Deputy Speaker Rana Magar in the House of Representatives on Sunday.

“At present, a media trial is underway regarding the deputy speaker’s letter and I would like to express my strong objection to that,” Shrestha said. She further raised questions about the Bhutanese refugee scams asking who was behind it.

She asked the Members of Parliament to be civil towards a woman who has been through a terrible ordeal.

“They have been holding onto the letter for a year now, when will they start investigating? The party is ready to cooperate,” she said.

Stating that the Constitutional Council has two members each from the UML and the CPN (Maoist Center) and one from the RSP, Shrestha said they were ready to leave if needed. “ If you need a seat in the Constitutional Council, ask for it. A woman’s character should not be assassinated in this manner,” she said.
