Announces Indefinite Strike in Kathmandu from April 2

KATHMANDU, March 11: The Nepal Teachers' Association has announced that it will surround the headquarters of major political parties starting Tuesday as part of the second phase of its movement.

The NTA, which completed the first phase of its movement on March 8, announced the second phase starting from March 11 to March 18. The NTA has announced that it will hold symbolic sit-ins at the central offices of political parties.

Teachers and school staff from across the country gathered at Maitighar Mandala and staged a protest on Saturday as part of the first phase of the movement.

After completing the first phase of the movement, the NTA announced that it will surround the Nepali Congress office on March 11 as part of the second phase of the protest, according to NTA President Laxmi Kishor Subedi.

President Subedi announced that they will surround the CPN-UML office on March 12, the CPN (Maoist Center) office on March 14, and the CPN (Unified Socialist) office on March 15.

They have also announced plans to surround the offices of the Rastriya Swatantra Party on March 16, the offices of JSP, LSP, and RJP on March 17, and the offices of Janamat, Nagarik Unmukti Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party on March 18.

The NTA will begin its indefinite strike on April 2, pressing for the issuance of the long-awaited School Education Act.

The NTA stated that it has held several movements in the past and reached many agreements with the government. However, it emphasized that a new School Education Act should address all these past agreements, but its implementation has been delayed.

The School Education Bill is currently under discussion in Parliament's Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee. However, the NTA pointed out that, despite its priority, no progress is being made on the bill. The NTA accuses the government of having no intention of issuing the School Education Act.

President Subedi stated that a serious conspiracy is underway to undermine the School Education Act, which should be supportive of schools, students, teachers, and staff. He emphasized that the NTA has launched its movement in response to this situation.

The NTA has also proposed meetings with lawmakers. It announced that from April 2, it will stage an indefinite movement on the streets of Kathmandu, which will continue until the School Education Act is issued. During this period, the NTA will also boycott all government work.
