In the programme organized by Acharya Bandu Society, TU Central Department of History, History Association of Nepal and the Nepal Academy, speakers defined Acharya as a person making a special contribution in evidence-based historical research.
Academy's Chancellor Ganga Prasad Upreti talked of a plan to publish a book on the historian and expressed belief that it would help in injecting interest in the younger generation towards history.
On the occasion, Prof Dineshraj Pant said Acharya was a specialist on Nepal's history and a person who changed the name of Chomolungma to Sagarmatha (Mt Everest).
TU Central Department of History Chief Prof Dr Bijaya Kumar Manandhar, Society's Vice Chair Keshav Acharya, historian Prof Dr Tulasiram Baidya said Acharya was a forerunner in writing the history of Nepal and praised his skills in deciphering ancient scripts.
Acharya's biography on the founder of modern Nepal, late king Prithvi Narayan Shah, is still taken as the authoritative biography on the late king. Acharya, who was born in Kathmandu in 1941 BS, is known as an encyclopaedia in Nepali history. RSS
