Nepal had staged a heroic second-half comeback to defeat India 2-1 in the final of the men's football held in Guwahati, India on Monday.
A victory parade was organized to honor the team. Trucks of Nepal Army carried the members of the triumphant team. The parade started from the airport and passed through Tilganga, Gausala, Ratopul, Kamalpokhari, Putalisadak, Exhibition Road, Bhadrakali, New Road, Judda Shalik, Bhotahity, Jamal, Bhadrakali, Shahid Gate and finally ended at the Dasharath Stadium in Triupureshwar.
Many supporters at the airport were busy taking selifes with the members of the squad. People applauded them throughout the city and captured their photos on their cell phones.
Earlier, the team which arrived via roadway to the eastern border of Nepal in Kakarbhitta, Jhapa, received warm welcome from the locals. Hundreds of fans waited patiently at the border to welcome the 'SAG heroes'. The team paraded various cities of Jhapa including Kakarbhitta, Dhulabari, Charali, Birtamod and Bhadrapur among others. The team boarded a flight from Bhadrapur airport to Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Cash reward announced
Minister of Youth and Sports Satya Narayan Mandal has announced a cash prize of Rs 500,000 to each member of the gold winning SAG team. Minister Mandal made such announcement amidst a felicitation function at the Dasharath Stadium.
Ahead of their departure for SAG, the National Sports Council had declared to provide Rs 200,000, Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively to the members of team events for winning gold, silver and bronze medal respectively.
