KATHMANDU, Aug 1: The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has forecast rainfall across various parts of the country today due to the continuing influence of monsoon winds.
According to the Division, the monsoon trough is currently located south of its average position in western Nepal and near its average position in the eastern part of the country. Skies are partly cloudy over the Terai of Lumbini Province, while the rest of the country remains generally cloudy.
Light to moderate rainfall is currently occurring in parts of Bagmati Province and at a few places in Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Heavy rain and snowfall likely in several regions today
This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy nationwide. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain or snowfall in some parts of the Himalayan region and at many places in the hilly region. Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is also likely at some places in the Terai.
Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Tonight, generally cloudy conditions are expected to persist across the country. Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in some parts of the Himalayan and hilly regions and at many places in the Terai.
Heavy rainfall is also likely at a few places in the Himalayan, hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as at one or two places in the Terai of Madhesh, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The MFD has urged the concerned authorities and the general public to remain alert, warning that heavy rainfall could trigger landslides, floods and mudflows, disrupting daily life.
