Tek Bahadur has sold litchi worth Rs 250,000.
Similarly, other villages like Thanpati, Digam, Rupakot, Johang, Harmichaur, Aslewa and Gwadi are also exporting litchi. This year the price of litchi has reached from Rs 50 to Rs 120 per kilogram.
“Vendors come to buy litchi before they are fully grown,” Tek Bahadur said: “Vendors buy litchi at Rs 50-80 per kilogram from the farmers. Litchi produced in Gulmi has been reaching the markets of Palpa and Rupandehi.”
As litchi is more profitable, farmers in Gulmi have been more attracted toward litchi farming. Laxman Gyawali, president of Chyurek vegetable and fruits farmer group said that litchi has been lucrative to the farmers. “Now farmers were earning between Rs 10,000 to Rs 250,000 from litchi,” he said.
