KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stated that the government will monitor whether the scholarship grants provided to underprivileged students have reached the target group. Taking to Facebook on Friday, PM Oli said that this monitoring will be carried out across all local bodies.
PM Oli mentioned that the government has allocated a budget of Rs 600 million to provide an annual grant of Rs 24,000 for science and Rs 18,000 for other faculties to underprivileged students in grades 6–10 in community schools.

He added that a scholarship amount ranging from Rs 1,000 to 3,500 per student has been allocated for non-residential students from 22 listed and marginalized communities studying in remote and other community schools. “A total of 1.55 million students across the country will benefit from these scholarships, with Rs 59 million allocated for this purpose,” he wrote on Facebook.
Additionally, PM Oli mentioned that 11,400 students from seven targeted groups, including educationally disadvantaged communities and students from remote Himalayan districts, are being provided residential scholarships at the rate of Rs 5,000 per month.
“The mentioned scholarship amounts have been transferred to each local government as conditional grants based on the cost per student. The related guidelines are available on the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s website,” PM Oli mentioned in the post.
