KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Over 100 Nepali students have been awarded with the Chinese government scholarships this year for pursing higher education in China.
The Chinese Embassy in Nepal formally awarded the scholarships to the students amid a function in the capital on Monday. The students receiving the scholarships will study at various universities in China at the Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate levels.

Speaking at the function, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Yu Hong congratulated the scholarship recipients and said that the number of Nepali students studying in China under the Chinese government scholarship has crossed over 6,400. “This year also, we have provided scholarships to Nepali students for Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate level studies in various subjects including engineering, aeronautical science, hydropower, medicine and Chinese language,” she said.
The envoy said that China wants to cooperate with Nepal in sectors like railway, aviation, highway and Internet and expand Inter-Himalaya network as part of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The envoy also expressed hope that the Nepali students studying in China will be instrumental in Nepal's economic development in the future. Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel was also present in the program. He thanked China for its support to helping Nepal produce technical manpower.
