MPs call for addressing problems facing squatters

As soon as today's session of the lower house of the Federal Parliament started, the opposition MPs stood up in protest, and when Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal gave them time to speak, most lawmakers talked about current issues along with solutions to the problems of the landless squatters.

KATHMANDU, July 14: Members of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament, have called for the immediate addressing of the problems faced by landless squatters and their proper management.



As soon as today's session of the lower house of the Federal Parliament started, the opposition MPs stood up in protest, and when Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal gave them time to speak, most lawmakers talked about current issues along with solutions to the problems of the landless squatters.


Ganesh Singh Thagunna drew the government's attention to address the problems of the squatters on time. He also demanded that the statement Prime Minister Balendra Shah made in the House some time ago regarding the border be removed from the parliamentary records.

Ramesh Kumar Malla expressed that the behavior shown by the metropolitan police toward Ganesh Nepali, who self-immolated a few days ago, was unfortunate and stated that everyone involved, including the government, should be alert to prevent such incidents from happening again.


Aaren Rai commented that the statement from the Prime Minister regarding the border dispute was wrong and requested the government to work in favor of the country's workers, poor, and marginalized people.


Gyan Bahadur Shahi said that the basic right of ordinary citizens to live should not be taken away and demanded action against those involved, stating that Ganesh Nepali was encouraged to self-immolate due to harsh behavior of the police.


Nishkal Rai said that the beauty of democracy is accountability and the right to ask questions, emphasizing that there should be no restrictions on people's freedom of expression. He mentioned that the government should be sensitive to incidents where a citizen is forced to lose their life.
