Govt to provide medicine against elephantiasis from February 23

KATHMANDU, Feb 19: The government is going to start a campaign to give medicine against Lymphatic filariasis, commonly known as elephantiasis in 15 districts from February 23.


According to the National Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, the campaign is going to be started in 15 districts of Jhapa, Morang, Mahottari, Dhanusha, Bara, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Rasuwa, Lamjung, Parbat, Baglung, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke and Kailali, where elephantiasis has not been controlled.

This campaign is being conducted in the district through the common medicine program. The department said that the general medicine consumption program has been held since the disease did not decrease as expected in these districts.


The goal of the government is to provide medicines to 8.4 million people in these districts. As many as 9,500 health workers and 13,000 female health volunteers will be mobilized for the general drug intake program.
