German technical and vocational school established in Dhading

DHADING, Oct 15:  Seshkanta Foundation has established a technical and vocational school in Dhadhing in cooperation with a German NGO.

DHADING, Oct 15:  Seshkanta Foundation has established a technical and vocational school in Dhadhing in cooperation with a German NGO.


The foundation has established German Technical School (GTS) at Dhunibeshi Municipality-5 in Dhading aiming at providing technical and vocational education to its students. The school has been established with the support from Zukunft für Nepal, a German NGO.


The metal workshop hall of the school has been constructed by financial assistance from develoPPP.de program, which is under the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and VOITH – a German technological company.

The students will be taught basic courses at the school for three months. The school is also planning to introduce a three-year diploma course, according to Rishi Ram Dhakal, secretary of Seshkanta Foundation. “A huge number of youths are travelling abroad for technical studies. Now, technical schools are established in Nepal itself,” he said, adding that the school aims at producing skilled human resource for the energy sector.


The school has been established aiming at introducing German technical and vocational education and training (TVET) for the first time in Nepal. The school has been affiliated with the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) to conduct training and vocational classes. The school will be fully constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 190 million. Currently, only classrooms, and other infrastructure have been built. 


According to Dhakal, students from any part of the country can join the school, which has quota of 20 students. The school has already started classes for assistant welder. The school also aims to start classes for diploma level electrical and electronics, and hydropower maintenance training. 


“The foundation has been conducting programs targeting the youths. The trainings students receive at the school will be beneficial in the long run,” Dhakal added.

Norbert Barthle, German Vice Minister for Economic Development and Cooperation shared his happiness to help Nepal establish a vocational and training school. “Nepal can further develop the hydro sector by utilizing the available resources,” Barthle said.


The school was jointly inaugurated by Dormani Poudel, chief minister of Province 3 and Barthle a few weeks back. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Poudel said that the provincial government is committed to establishing at least one technical and vocational school in each local unit.
