FNJ condemns manhandling of journos

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Kathmandu Chapter, has condemned the police attack on journalists working with Metro FM, a FM station run by the Kathmandu Metropolis.



Issuing a press statement on Sunday, secretary of FNJ, Kathmandu Chapter, Deepak Khanal said serious attention of the federation has been drawn towards the interference in peaceful protest despite the journalists´ demands were genuine. [break]



Journalists of the Metro FM were organizing peaceful protests demanding their permanent status and cancellation of vacancy announcement for Station Manager.



FNJ has also expressed solidarity to the demands of the journalists as well.



Coordinator of Metro FM Struggle Committee Raju Lama and former chairman of FNJ, Kathmandu Chapter, Yubraj Bidrohi, among other journalists were manhandled by police personnel while they were staging sit-in in front of the office of the executive officer on Friday.



Similarly, a meeting of the FNJ, Kathmandu, held on Sunday has decided to submit a memorandum to Minister for Finance to draw the government´s attention for making necessary provision of taking permanent account number (PAN) in the media houses as well.
