FNJ condemns manhandling of journo Ghimire

KATHMANDU, April 27: Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has on Wednesday denounced the incident of mistreatment of senior journalist Yubaraj Ghimire by an armed police constable.



Senior journalist Ghimire was manhandled by an armed police constable on duty at the American Recreation Centre on Tuesday. [break]



Ghimire was walking along the footpath in front of the Centre when the incident took place.



Mistreatment and manhandling of a popular journalist like Ghimire by police mobilized to provide security to the people is an attack on the entire press sector, reads a statement issued by the FNJ here Wednesday.



The Federation has also demanded action against the policeman involvement in the incident and a public apology from the authorities concerned.



In a similar statement, the Human Rights Organization of Nepal (HURON) while drawing the attention of all concerned toward the incident of mistreatment of senior journalist Ghimire also expressed concern over the undignified treatment by the police.
