Environment ministry urges public to avoid burning plastic waste

KATHMANDU, Dec 17: The Ministry of Forests and Environment has urged the public to refrain from burning plastic waste and agricultural residues, citing their contribution to worsening air pollution.


In a notice issued today, the ministry emphasized the importance of maintaining vehicles, using clean energy in industries and kitchens, and controlling smoke and dust from roads and construction sites.

The notice comes in response to rising air pollution levels in the Terai region and Kathmandu Valley over the past few weeks. Major contributors to air pollution include industries, vehicles, forest fires, open waste burning, and construction dust.


The ministry highlighted the health risks associated with air pollution, particularly for children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with respiratory or heart conditions. It urged the public to adopt preventive measures to reduce pollution and its harmful effects.
