8 universities from Nepal, India and B’desh to compete in Jay Nepal T-20 Cup

Four teams from Nepal - Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, Mid-Western University, and Eastern University - along with teams from India including Delhi University, Lucknow University, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University, as well as Dhaka University from Bangladesh, will compete in the Jay Nepal Cup.

KATHMANDU, Jan 17: Jay Nepal Cup South Asian University T-20 cricket tournament is set to begin from January 20 to 28.  The Jay Nepal T-20 Cricket tournament is being organized by the Nepal Student Union (NSU), the student wing of the ruling Nepali Congress. Eight universities from Nepal, India, and Bangladesh will be competing in the tournament.


The matches of the tournament will be held at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground. The NSU organized a press conference on Thursday and provided information about the tournament. The organizers also aim to promote the issue of climate change through the T20 cricket tournament.

The tournament, which will last for a total of 9 days, will be conducted on the basis of league-less knockouts. A total of eight teams are divided into two groups. According to the organizer, even a member of the U-19 team of Bangladesh will play from Dhaka University. The organizer has stated that some members of the Nepali national team will also represent the Nepali universities.


According to the organizers, only students who have studied in the respective universities will be eligible to play Jay Nepal Cup. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. The winner will get Rs 1.5 million and the runner-up will get Rs 1 million. Ganesh Thapa, coordinator of the competition, said that the prize of Rs 500,000 will be given to the best in different categories.


According to the organizers, the winner of the competition will get a chance to observe the world's highest peak, Mount Everest. The NSU has appointed the youngest mountaineer Nima Rinji Sherpa as the brand ambassador for this competition.


Dujang Sherpa, the president of the NSU, stated that the aim of this competition is to gather the energetic youth of South Asia to sensitize them towards sustainability and the environment. General tickets for the tournament are priced at Rs 100, while VIP tickets are priced at Rs 500.
