Health Minister says paraplegics to get free meds worth Rs 138,000

KATHMANDU, Jan 16: Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel has decided to provide free medicine used in the treatment of paralysis.


Stating that in the treatment of paralysis, the medication used is very expensive, and every year around 800 people lose their lives due to the lack of treatment, Minister Paudel has decided to make it available for free.

According to a press statement from the minister’s private secretary on Thursday, the ministry decided to distribute the medication received from the US government for free through federal and provincial hospitals in the country.


The medicine known as “thrombolytic drugs,” is effective in treating paralysis when taken in a single dose. One dose of Thrombolytic Drugs costs as much as Rs 138,000.


The ministry has stated that there is a risk of death if people with high blood pressure and heart-related problems are paralyzed and if they do not receive medicine on time.
