KATHMANDU, Jan 18: While most political parties are currently focusing on preparing for their respective ‘Mission 84,’ with both small and large parties aiming to gather public support for the next general election, many are seeking the support of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah.
Particularly, political parties and leaders dissatisfied with the government are hoping for Mayor Shah's support in various matters. Discussions are also ongoing about the support being sought by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the ‘Motherland Awakening Campaign, Nepal’ recently launched by Bhim Rawal.

Meanwhile, Mayor Shah's secretariat has stated that he is too busy with his own work. His personal secretary Bhupadev Shah said, "We are occupied with our own tasks, and we have not engaged in any political discussions. We don't have time for them either." Mayor Balen, who won a landslide victory as an independent candidate in the 2022 local elections, has a large youth following.
Although Balen is the mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, his fan following extends across the country. As a result, leaders and parties are adopting a strategy of collaborating with him, rather than opposing him, to attract the youth's support.
