High priority on passing bills in winter session

KATHMANDU, Jan 25: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh has stated that the government will reclaim encroached public land. “The government has established policies and laws. Public land must remain public,” Singh stated. “If anyone encroaches on public land, the government will reclaim it. In several places, the reclaimed land process has already begun.” He further added that the government is working to ease the lives and livelihoods of citizens.

Referring to the Supreme Court's decision on the 20-meter standard for riverbanks in Bagmati and other areas in the valley, which could potentially impact 1.5 to 1.6 million people, Singh recalled that the government had sought a review from the court based on the report submitted by a committee led by the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development. He mentioned that this has temporarily resolved the immediate problem.

Deputy Prime Minister Singh also stated that the government has placed high priority on passing bills and enacting necessary new laws during the Winter Session of Parliament, beginning on January 31. He claimed that significant improvements had been made in Kathmandu Constituency 1, where he was elected. Comparing the past and present state of Buddhanagar, Singh urged people not to trust negative comments on social media claiming that no progress has been made.
