KATHMANDU, April 2: Teachers across the country have started a protest centered in Kathmandu from Wednesday, demanding the enactment of the School Education Act. Teachers from all over the country are continuing to arrive in Kathmandu.

Under the leadership of the Nepal Teachers' Federation (NTF), the protest began with a rally on Wednesday. The teachers have mentioned that their rally is currently moving from Maitighar towards New Baneshwor.

According to Nanu Maya Parajuli, the co-chairperson of the NTF and coordinator of the protest operation committee, it is estimated that over 100,000 teachers and staff will participate in the rally. Although the pro-monarchy protest in Tinkune last Friday turned violent, she said that around 800 volunteers have been deployed to ensure their protest remains peaceful.

Teachers have resumed their protest, citing that previous agreements have not been implemented. They have committed to halting their protest as soon as the law is enacted as per the agreement.

Teachers, who had protested against the Education Bill, had reached a six-point agreement with the government on September 21. However, they have claimed that the bill, which was supposed to address their demands, has been stalled in the parliamentary education committee, leading them to initiate pressure-based programs.
