She was critically injured after being bitten by the snake in the compound of her home at around 7 pm.

She was rushed to the snakebite treatment center at Belsot. As she could not be treated at the center, she was being taken to a well-equipped hospital but she died on the way, according to the Area Police Office (APO), Katari.

Ward member of Katari-1, Buddhimaya Bishwarkarma, who is also the daughter of the deceased, stated that her mother died on the way to the hospital.

Last year, four people died of snakebite in Katari, according to the details maintained by the police. With the onset of summer and monsoon, snakes have started terrorizing the people in various parts of Tarai. Apart from Katari, Belka Municipality of Udayapur is also known to have a massive number of snakes. The cases of snakebite are equally common in the district headquarters Triyuga.

Due to the increasing number of snakebite cases, the municipality had brought a snakebite treatment center into operation one and a half years ago. Last year, a total of 97 people in Belka were bitten by snakes and treated at the center. However, one of them had died.

Similarly, Chaudandigadhi Municipality had also established a snakebite treatment center at Beltar last year.
