EC to publish final list of candidates and provide election symbols today

Candidates for the local level by-election will receive their election symbols after the final list of candidates will be published.

Candidates can withdraw their nominations from 9 AM to 1 PM


KATHMANDU, Nov 20: The Election Commission (EC) will publish the final list of candidates by 3 PM. According to the election schedule, candidates will be provided with election symbols by 5 PM.


Candidates for the local level by-election will receive their election symbols on Wednesday. According to the by-election schedule, candidates can withdraw their nominations today from 9 AM to 1 PM.

On December 1, the by-election will be held in 44 locations. Nominations for the elections were completed on Sunday. A total of 410 candidates have filed nominations for the 44 constituencies.


By-elections will be held for a total of 44 vacant positions, including two district coordination committee chiefs, two chairs of rural municipalities, four vice-chairpersons, one municipal chief and one deputy chief, and 34 ward chairpersons.


According to the EC, by-elections will be held for the post of district coordination committee chief of Okhaldhunga and Kailali, mayor of Kirtipur Municipality of Kathmandu, deputy mayor of Nalgad Municipality of Jajarkot, chairperson of Gramthan Rural Municipality of Morang and Mahabu Rural Municipality of Dailekh, Gaurishankar Rural Municipality of Dolakha, Sarkegad Rural Municipality of Humla and Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality of Bajura. 


By-elections will also be held for ward chairpersons of Siriganga Rural Municipality-3 of Taplejung, Kankai Municipality-6 of Jhapa, Laligurans Municipality-8 of Tehrathum, Gadhi Rural Municipality-6 of Sunsari, Molung Rural Municipality-5 of Okhaldhunga, Triyuga Municipality-12 of Udayapur, Belka Municipality-9, Dakneshwari Municipality-1 and 4 of Saptari, Dhanushadham Municipality-1 of Dhanusha.  


Likewise, elections will be held for ward chair of Ramgopalpur Municipality-2 of Mahottari, Ishnath Municipality-7, Rajpur Municipality-6 and Gadhimai Municipality-8 of Rautahat. 


The election will be held for the post of chairperson of Kirtipur Municipality-1 and 4, of Kathmandu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16, Kakani Rural Municipality-2 of Nuwakot, Hetauda Municipality-12 of Makawanpur, Gorkha Municipality-5 of Gorkha, Musikot Municipality-1 of Gulmi, Runtigadhi Rural Municipality-4 of Rolpa, Thakurbaba Municipality-4 of Bardiya, Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality-2 of Rukum (East) and Shuddhodhan Rural Municipality-1 of Kapilvastu.
