JANAKPURDHAM, (Dhanusa), Jan 15: With most government offices remaining shut due to the ongoing protest enforced by the United Democratic Madhesi Front in some Tarai districts for past around five months, development works have been affected.

Failure to call councils of local bodies in time due to the protest has made the matter worse.

To bring budget and introduce development programs, councils of local bodies are required to hold until mid January every year.

As a result, the bodies are yet to select their development plans and make preparations to bring budget.

Punya Prasad Niraula, chief of Janakpur Sub Metropolitan City, said that they failed to convene office council due to the protest.

He added that they had taken up the matter with the Ministry of Local Development.

Birendra Yadav, engineer at Janakpur Sub Metropolis, said that development works have come to a halt due to the protest, adding that the metropolis is yet to complete development plans for this fiscal year as well. RSS
