“Prices of key raw materials like milk powder and packaging materials have grown manifold over the past few years. The appreciation of US dollar has further worsened the situation,” SP Singh, general manager of DDC, told Republica. “This compelled us to raise the price of whole milk.” [break]
When questioned why the price of only one milk variety has been raised, Singh said they chose to raise the price of product mostly consumed by the elites. “It won´t be practical to raise the prices of all products ahead of the major festive season,” he added.
DDC has put other varieties of pasteurized milk like Cow Milk, Standard Milk and Slim Milk unchanged. While cow milk costs Rs 60 a liter, standard and slim milk are available at Rs 50 and Rs 44 per liter, respectively.
At present, the state-owned dairy producer distributes 160,000 liters of packaged milk, including 25,000 liters of whole milk.
