The probe, headed by Gokarnamani Duwadi, Joint Secretary of Ministry of home affairs assured the pressure group that it will submit its report within a week, said Maharjan´s daughter Sudha. [break]
Following the assurance the protesters broke their relay hunger strike at Basantapur Darbar Square. Duwadi also asked them to provide any information or evidences which may help in the investigation.
According to Sudha, Maharjan´s relatives were hopeful that they would get some information on the whereabouts of the missing woman. However, they warned of more protests if there was no headway in the case. “It is just the pause in our protest.”
Maharjan went missing from the heart of the capital some five months ago. Her relatives went on relay hunger strike to press the government to shed lights on the case claiming that the police has not done enough to find the missing woman.
The other members of the probe are Parshu Ram Khatri, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Metropolitan Police Commissioner´s office, Niraj Kumar Shrestha, Investigation Director of National Investigative Department and Raj Kumar Koirala, Deputy Government Attorney at the office of the Attorney General.
